We essentially consider all the elements of design, while engaging in a task. The elements are combined and used together in a design to craft interesting graphical woks. These are basically the components of design and not the principles such as whitespace and balance.
Some of the most frequently used elements in graphics design are:
Shape: Shape form the foundation of design. It helps to create patterns using different shapes in one or the other form to launch designs for educational, business, advertising or promotional purposes. Shapes offer a variety of ways to fill spaces creatively, to support text and other forms of content, and to balance a design. Shapes can be created out of nothing, using white space to give a design structure and clarity.
Color: Color plays a very appealing role as it can change the look and feel of elements. It highlights an image, evokes an emotion and makes the image stand out among the rest.
Texture: Texture is applied to the basic surface of a design. In this the design is actually felt by the audience thus making it unique from other numerous designs.
Line: Lines are used to separate the content, divide the available space and create a balance between the content in various forms such as newspaper, magazines, website designs etc.
Art, Illustration and Photography: The selection of various photographs and illustrations is incredibly essential. They are used in books to recite poems, narrate stories, use of illustrations to support the ideas and also to detain the viewer’s attention. A powerful illustration or an image can either make or break any design.
Type: In graphics design it’s not only the display of text that matters but what matters are to understand the text and how that text can be used for effective communication. The type can be used to create different styles, shapes and images.
